Still missing SOAD?
Many of us feel the void left by System Of A Down after they decided to take a break. Daron Malakian’s Scars On Broadway was a good effort, but left me somehow wanting more.
But as SOAD doesn’t know when they’ll be back, we’ll have to get our Eastern influenced metal somewhere else. Here are two that I’ve recently come across.
What the first band lacks in the Eastern vibe dept, they make up for it when it comes to humor and controversy. Although SOAD’s political views are much more somber, Blownload‘s political beliefs are just as deeply felt.
Blownload – Keep Sex Evil:
Here’s another one: Legalize it
You may also check them out on MySpace. They’ve been touring with Revolting Cocks and The Jim Rose Circus recently, and received good reviews (including from Classic Rock)
The other band, PUi, was mentioned in an article from the California Chronicle, and sounded interesting. The entire concept, Circue de Rock, mentioned in the article sounds like a lot of fun ;-)
PUi has a lot in common with both SOAD and Faith No More, and is well worth the listen.
Both PUi and Blownload still lack that certain sophistication that SOAD displayed, but these are both bands in development.
By the way, if it’s Eastern vibes you’re looking for, do yourself a favor and check out Melechesh, Sumerian Thrashing Black Metal! They rock!
